Stakes Day Race Day

Heya guys!
Hope you all had a great weekend!

Now I must say anyone who knows me would be well aware that I love my Saturday morning sleep ins and to get me up before 10am better be worth it! I found myself up at 6:30am knowing Mez will be at my place nice and early to get me to the races! We were off to stakes day, and we had to be there by 9am as Mez is part of our work social club, and had to deliver all the delicious goodies and help set up.

After mucking around with my makeup for ages, I thought I’d take a picture before I got messy by the end of the day! I love my headband with flowers on it, was so cute. I just don’t think the big fascinators suit me, I think any attraction to making me look bigger is a No No hehe.

We were located in the Nursery and had a few allocated car parks where the social club had set up with big umbrellas, tables of snacks and lots of alcohol on ice! Mez and I dumped the food and went to park the car … it was like a lego maze to get out of the damn car park, it took some skill but we made it!

We cracked open the champagne at 10:30... drinking before midday… yes its true! What can I say, the weather was fantastic and the drinks were going down way to easy . Before I knew it I was talking dribble, and Mez made me drink a flute of water before I continued with my day. She did have a point, but who wants to waste valuable stomach room on water!

I thought it was great to see all the girls dressed up and the guys in their suits! Such effort made by all! I wish people would make the same effort on a night out. For example, whats with guys and their crappy $20 slip ons. They should have a blanket ban, they are hideous and should only be worn by old men!

Mez had enough in the early afternoon, which was fair enough to, who wants to be sober while everyone else is having fun! I did however find some girls who had quite as many drinks as me which made placing bets extremely amusing! I wasn’t fairing too well in the betting department until I spoke to these girls, I made my money back plus more.. YIPEE!
There were some interesting behaviours near the end of the day! The people in the car park behind us started packing up and randomly left a platter of cheese on the ground when they left.  I was talking to one of the guys at work and we noticed some random chick just came along and started pecking at the cheese on the platter, nibbling away, and then went on her merry way hahaha What the heck!

Another girl from work was sitting around all day drinking, and when she finally got up she toppled over into a bunch of chairs and on top of people! HILARIOUS! I usually don’t laugh at stuff like that but she was acting like it was quite normal behaviour lol… good times! Hrm clearly what seems funny at the time doesn’t sound quite so funny when typed out here…. Lol maybe cause its work people it makes it a bit more amusing for me!
Before I knew it, it was 7:30 and time to go home. One of the girls from work dropped me home which was excellent as I pretty much dumped Mez for grog haha. Anyway within 30mins the night turned ugly and I was sick, VERY SICK! I put myself to bed at 10! Clearly drinking all day in the sun is great at the time, but can have horrid consequences.  I was invited to a hens that night but declined, and as I suspected, there was no way I could of gone on all night! I clearly don’t know the concept of pacing myself!
Sunday I ended up feeling sorry for myself for most of the morning, until I perked up by the afternoon.. thank goodness!

Have you been to the races? We did not manage to venture to the general admin, which makes me wonder what its like? I feel like I’d love to dress up in a really expensive outfit and enter some sort of competition on race day! Lame I know, but I love gorgeous clothes! Maybe next year I guess….

Results of Melbourne Cup Shop Day ....

Heya guys...

Can I just start out by saying after getting pressured into the sweep at work I ended up $75 up! Woo Hoo! Thats my Stakes Day Betting money in check!

So as you probably read last post I was on a mission on cup day to find my stakes day outfit. Originally I had my eyes set on a particular black lace David Lawrence dress but funnily enough, out of stock!

I actually ended up trying on heaps of dresses and I had major problems being hemline and many of the colours out there actually did not suit my skin tone and made me look old.... If I see yellow I need to walk away. It just doesn't work. oh and mint green... makes me look old!

Anyway I was starting to loose patience but I pulled myself together walked into DJ's and decided to just take my time and rummage through every possible rack....

but Horrah! I found something!....

Dress - Table Eight $229.99

Seriously my 'normal' face always looks so angry. I think at this point I'm concerned with the fact that I need need to waste more time (and money) at the shops in the undergarment department to purchase underwear that hikes up to my chest to flatten my stomach lol ....But that said I still bought!

I ventured to Myer as they had a discount on all millinery .. generally hats don't suit me so I was looking for a clip, headband type thing.

I tried this on for size... Not for me, as you can tell by the unhappy look on my face...

Triple Flowers on Headband $59.95
(plus 25% off and a $20 gift card = $24.96 cheap!)

Second one I tried... and we have a winner! I think its pretty cute even if I do say so myself!

On my way home I thought I would detour to Sydney Road for True Blue Shoes. They have the best sale on at the moment. One pair or shoes for $70 or two pairs for $100! And because I love Tony Bianco its absolute heaven for me! I think most of my shoes are from there! Anyway I found a pair of black pumps but they ran out of my size... I guess it wasn't  to be :(

I took this at home... I really need to master the full body photo... you can hardly see me! I have on my mimco black pumps but I kept thinking about the peep toes I saw at True Blue shoes on Sydney road.

So here are some more random pictures if your interested....

So you can see the headband properly....

From the Front....

And the back....

As I stewed over not buying the shoes from True Blue I thought I'd have a quick look at the peep toe website. I found these gorgeous things for $49.95! and only my size left! (40 - 9.5) I had to buy! But I think I maybe pushing it to get them by Saturday. Ah well I'm sure I'll find another event to wear them to!

I have a black Fiorelli clutch which I have had for years! I love it so much.... and I think my outfit is complete with it ... except for the fake tan!

So I kind of detoured from the full elegant look I wanted to go for... but ah well... Hopefully it all comes together on the day!

So what do you guys honestly think? Yay or nah? xxx

Feels like a long weekend... but not quite

Heya Prowlers!

Its the beginning of November and that means Melbourne Cup weekend! ....which marks our first public holiday in what is the longest stretch of the year without one! and it couldn't come soon enough!

I don't really have any interested in the Melbourne Cup but I did draw out the favourite in our cup sweep at work. We'll see if I have any luck! My boss pressured me into putting my name into the sweep... If I win I def will be thanking him!

While we're talking races I'm going to Stakes Day this Saturday and I'm pretty excited! I've never been to the races before (well I went to the country races but thats not included), but I'm liking the idea of getting dressed up and drinking most of the day (without sounding like an alco). I plan to hit the shops tomorrow to find a dress (yes I left this a bit late)... but I think I will go classic. I really like this David Lawrence black lace dress. Yes I have a thing for David Lawrence. I used to think its totally for my mum but there are some really beautiful classic dresses that I can't help but like!

David Lawrence - Sleeveless Lace Lady Dress with Grosgrain Trim $229

Last Friday after work I thought I'd attempt to dress shop at Highpoint after work. Far out all the dresses are so short! A lot of you lovely ladies can get away with this, but at the moment I cannot! (even thought I still try to as you will see below). So as I gave up on the races dress shopping ... I did find these two at Sportsgirl. Note my poor photography and the lack of showing the detail of the dresses... but hopefully you get the idea!

Love this dress... and I'm never really into the Midi length. I should take better photos.

Printed Floaty Day Dress $48.95 (Damn it I paid $69.95 ripped off!)
As you can see this is rather short, and its got the whole Hi - Lo thing going on, which is good at the back for me! I have it on now. So comfy!

So Pani came to visit on Saturday night... and we ventured to Dan Murphy's for a decent stash of Moscato.

I had to have this Moscato, I mean how cute are the bottles!

Pani in charge of our stash! Can I just say the guy at Dan Murphy's was so helpful.. although he did recommend a $4 bottle which made me laugh.. what the hell! Did we look like cheap drunks?!

Anyway so we got home and realised, as the weather was hot, that all we needed for dinner was oysters and wine. We always go to Esca Grill.. Why you say! because its so damn good! We wanted to try something new, but I have no idea about any good seafood restaurants, and whatever we googled sounded so dodgy! So Esca Grill it was...

Oysters kilpatrick are the bomb! You non oyster eaters get on this!

No flash.. good one Pani! haha

Esca Grill have this awesome Moscato on their wine list, but Dan Murphy's doesn't have it which surprises me. Anyway its by Montevecchio ... if you love sweet wine, you'll love it!

I couldn't be bothered dealing with drunken idiots on Saturday night so we didn't last long! But next Sat I'll probably be one of them.. haha

On Sunday Mez and I went to visit Jkats and a few other for a BBQ. It was great to catch up... I think I held a child for the longest in my life. I don't quite know what to do! I think I do like kids, but I don't know how to act around them. I'm quite pathetic like that! I guess I'll get used to it with a few of my friends with children running around!

I made the bestest dinner tonight! Mussels with White Wine and Garlic. THE BOMB! Healthiest dinner, and delicious. I have a thing for seafood.

I nearly cried today when Mez told me about her wedding dress disaster,  I can't handle people crying, it just makes me cry. Then I appear heartless as I run off from the situation because I don't want to end up full sobbing. I'm hopeless like that! I told her that the memories can't be taken, and that she looked amazingly beautiful in the dress, but in all honesty I'm kind of heart broken for her. There was so much effort that went into that dress.. not only was it sentimental because of the memories of the special day but Mez created that design herself....its got that extra bit of love put into it hehe. I'm glad she had that day to rock the most beautiful dress I've seen!

I shall post soon re: possible dress for races! If you have any recommendations for dresses that suit what I'm looking for def let me know!

Hope you have a great Melbourne Cup day.. and maybe even pick a winner!
